Thomas Weatherall is a Kamilaroi writer and actor. He is the 2021 Balnaves Fellow at Belvoir Theatre, and is under commission to write his debut play BLUE with the company. A delicate and personal work, BLUE examines masculinity, familial grief, mental health, love and loss through an honest and brutal lens, as both Thomas and his character search for a more hopeful way forward.
After making his professional acting debut in 2018, in the award-winning series DEADLOCK with the ABC, Thomas began a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting at QUT. During his second year, Thomas joined the lead cast of Network Seven drama series RFDS, and was subsequently named as one of Casting Guild Australia’s Rising Stars for 2020. Thomas’ other television credits include ALL MY FRIENDS ARE RACIST and TROPPO with the ABC. In 2021, Thomas made his professional stage debut in FOLLOW ME HOME produced by ATYP at Griffin’s Stables.
Thomas is lead cast in the highly anticipated Netflix television series HEARTBREAK HIGH produced by Fremantle Media, released in 2022. In addition to writing his new play, Thomas is working in writers’ rooms for television and has several writing projects in development.
